On 17-18 October 2024, SCO Deputy Secretary General Oleg Kopylov took part in the 12th Russia – Country of Sports International Forum. One of the forum topics was the discussion of development prospects and the search for ways to strengthen international and regional cooperation in fitness and sports.
The event was opened by President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The head of state noted that the global sports’ future required a serious and detailed discussion to jointly look for a solution to overcoming today’s difficult challenges.
It was noted that in 2024, Russia presented a unique tournament in the promising phygital format: Games of the Future. This summer, the BRICS Games were successfully held. It was emphasised that Russia was intensifying its work with its SCO partners in the field of sports.
On 18 October, the SCO delegation took part in the forum’s ministerial session on Sports Integration in the CIS, BRICS, SCO, and EAEU: New Opportunities along with the heads of over 15 foreign delegations and officials representing international organisations.
In his remarks, the Deputy Secretary General noted that the SCO was working to create conditions to promote fitness and sports in the greater Eurasian space, and consistently developing Olympic, Paralympic and national sports, including in cooperation with the CIS, BRICS, and EAEU countries. The implementation of Russian initiatives on the establishment of the SCO Sports Games, the creation of the Association of SCO Sports Organisations, and the convening of the Working Group on Fitness and Sports looks promising.
