On 17 October 2024, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the 23rd meeting of the SCO Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) Council in Islamabad.
Secretary-General Zhang Ming congratulated the Pakistani side on the meeting being a success and praised its contribution to the progress the organisation has been making and the deepening of cooperation within it. Zhang Ming emphasised the current importance of implementing the signed documents. The SCO Secretariat is ready to work with the member states, including Pakistan, to implement the agreements reached at the past meeting, to deepen cooperation and take practical steps in this direction.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the SCO Secretariat for its assistance in holding the meeting and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to further promote cooperation within the SCO in various fields.
The discussion also focused on regional security, followed by an in-depth exchange of opinions on the trade, economic, investment, and transport cooperation within the SCO, and the member states’ joint fight against poverty and terrorism.
