On 27 September 2024, the 5th SCO Think Tank Forum opened in Shanghai.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Oleg Kopylov praised some of the SCO’s achievements in his opening remarks adding that the group’s success was due to its unshakable underlying principles known as the Shanghai spirit, which the Organisation has been guided by since its establishment.
The dramatic changes ongoing in the world impose new requirements on the SCO, Oleg Kopylov stressed. Determined to keep up with the times, responding and adapting to the ongoing processes in international politics, the SCO is ready to engage with the international community to build a fairer and more rational international system.
The forum was attended by representatives of Chinese and foreign think tanks, including those from the countries of the SCO family, as well as international organisations.
The forum has been held annually in Shanghai since 2020, organised by the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law and the China Institute of International Studies.
