SCO Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev attended the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum held on 12−14 September 2024. The forum was organised by the Defence Ministry of China, the China Association for Military Science (CAMS) and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS).
In his speech at the plenary session on International Mechanisms and Global Security, Nurlan Yermekbayev briefed the forum participants on the SCO’s current efforts and plans in the sphere of security policy. He pointed out that the SCO was not a military bloc directed against any country. In particular, the documents adopted at the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in July 2024 reaffirmed the member states’ stance for unity, cooperation and a just world order, and against dividing lines, confrontation and hegemony.
The Beijing Xiangshan Forum (formerly the Xiangshan Forum) was initiated by the China Association for Military Science (CAMS) in 2006 as a platform for high-level dialogue on security in the Asia-Pacific region.
