On 9 July 2024, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation hosted SCO Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev’s briefing for permanent representatives of the SCO member states.
During the event, the participants were briefed on the results of the meetings of the Foreign Ministers Council and SCO Heads of State Council, held in Astana in May and July.
In particular, Nurlan Yermekbayev highlighted that the procedure of accepting the Republic of Belarus to the SCO had been completed during the Astana summit, the presidency had been passed to China, and Qingdao, China, had received the status of the SCO cultural and tourism capital in 2024-2025.

Mr Yermekbayev noted that 25 documents were adopted, including the Astana Declaration and the SCO Secretary General’s Report on the SCO’s performance in 2023-2024, as well as 20 decisions in the spheres of politics, diplomacy, trade, the economy, culture, and humanitarian affairs. The SCO heads of state decided to approve proposals on improving the Organisation’s activities.
