On 21 June 2024, Energy Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev chaired the fourth meeting of SCO Energy Ministers in Astana.
Taking part in the meeting were heads of ministries and departments responsible for cooperation in the field of energy in the SCO member states, as well as from the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Turkiye.
During the meeting, the heads of delegations discussed the current state and development prospects of the global and regional energy agenda.
The parties also discussed the development of the energy sector and ways to attract investment and financing in order to implement projects and programmes in this sphere.
In this remarks, SCO Deputy Secretary General Sohail Khan highlighted the SCO’s important role in the global energy sphere, which united largest producers, transiters, and consumers of energy resources on its platform.
Sohail Khan also noted that the SCO member states were placing special focus on promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in energy and building a sustainable economic system, including by promoting green and environmentally friendly technologies, as well as inclusive approaches to social development based on the implementation of the SCO Green Belt Programme.
The meeting participants approved the draft SCO Strategy for the Development of Energy Cooperation until 2030 to be further adopted at the upcoming meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council scheduled to take place on 3–4 July 2024 in Astana.
