On 22 May 2024, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, who arrived in Almaty for a meeting of the heads of tourism administrations of the SCO member states and a conference of the heads of the SCO countries’ ministries and departments for physical culture and sports, met with Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva.
The sides exchanged views on the current state and outlook for cooperation in the fields of culture and arts in the SCO space. They pointed out the importance of implementing the SCO leaders’ decisions on strengthening cultural exchanges between member states, in particular, the projects and initiatives coordinated during a recent SCO Culture Ministers’ Meeting held on 15 May 2024 via videoconference.
Zhang Ming highlighted Kazakhstan’s substantial contribution to the development of cooperation in culture and arts during the republic’s SCO chairmanship. He also said that the SCO Secretariat would continue to provide all-round assistance to the SCO family countries for taking cultural cooperation to a new level.
