At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the National Election Committee of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the SCO Observer Mission monitored the election of Members of the 7th National Assembly of the country.
The SCO observers attended election events of the Cambodian People's Party, the FUNCINPEC Party and the Khmer National Unity Party to familiarize themselves with the parties' election campaigns. In a meeting with senior officials of the National Election Committee, they were briefed in detail on the specifics of Cambodia's electoral law and the preparations for and conduct of the elections.
A total of Sixty-eight polling stations in Phnom Penh city and Kandal province were visited, and discussions were held with the chairpersons and members of local electoral bodies, national and international observers, and media representatives. Mission members were present at the time of opening and closing of polling stations and also during the counting of votes.
The SCO Mission had meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SCO Mission also participated in a group meeting of international observers with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia H.E. Mr. Hun Sen. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all participants, emphasizing the importance of the presence of the SCO Mission at the elections.
A statement was issued on the results of the Mission's observations.
The Kingdom of Cambodia has the status of an SCO Dialogue Partner. SCO observers were also present during the previous parliamentary elections in Cambodia in 2018.
