On 27 June 2023, India, now presiding in the SCO, added a bright touch to the SCO Secretariat’s surroundings by opening the brand-new multipurpose New Delhi Hall.
Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar sent a video address in this connection. SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat spoke at the opening ceremony. Ambassadors, permanent representatives of SCO Family countries, SCO Secretariat officials and journalists were also present.
The hall’s elegant and exquisite design features the best architectural and interior decor traditions of southern India, and some of its ornaments directly allude to world-famous Indian cultural landmarks.
The hall also boasts modern video and sound equipment for holding talks and meetings of expert groups, news conferences and briefings, as well as other official, cultural and humanitarian events.
India presides in the SCO in 2022-2023. On 5 July 2023, Kazakhstan will succeed India following the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in New Delhi.
