On 28 July 2022, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with Deputy Prime Minister - Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Beskenuly Tileuberdi.
The Kazakhstani official congratulated Zhang Ming on his appointment and thanked the SCO for sending an observer mission to the referendum on amendments to the Constitution in June 2022.
Mukhtar Beskenuly Tileuberdi said that the SCO was a major international cooperation platform for Kazakhstan, expressed his country’s wish to expand cooperation within the SCO framework in many spheres and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s support for the work of the SCO Secretariat and its leaders.
Zhang Ming thanked the Kazakhstani authorities for their trust and support. He pointed out that the political and economic situation in the world was changing dramatically, creating new threats and challenges to the international community. The SCO is committed to supporting the principles of the Shanghai Spirit and strengthening mutual trust and cooperation among the member states. Work is underway to analyse the possibility of building up multilateral interaction in vital spheres, such as transport and logistics, connectivity, energy, agriculture, industry and finance. The SCO supports the efforts of the member states towards stable development. The SCO Secretariat is willing to provide all-round support to Kazakhstan’s initiatives, which are being implemented within the framework of the organisation.
The sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on preparations for the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Samarkand, the situation in the region and the world as a whole, as well as the improvement of the SCO and its agencies.
