On 19 April 2022, a round table on the Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan was held at the SCO Secretariat. The event was organised by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, with support from the SCO Secretariat. It was attended by diplomats from the SCO countries, leading Chinese experts and political analysts who presented their reports, as well as representatives of the Chinese media.
SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming said in his opening remarks that Uzbekistan was playing a key role in ensuring peace and tranquillity in the SCO space. He pointed out that Uzbekistan's topical initiatives and proposals were helping to expand the agenda of meetings of the SCO countries' heads of ministries and agencies and improve the organisation's international standing. During Uzbekistan's presidency of the organisation, it has been steadily strengthening cooperation in the spheres of regional stability, transport connectivity, innovations and high technology, and cultural and people-to-people diplomacy.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan to China Farhod Arziyev spoke about active cooperation between Uzbekistan and China within the framework of international and regional organisations. He noted that the programme of Uzbekistan's SCO Presidency stipulated over 80 events and that hard work was underway to prepare the main event of the year, a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council, scheduled to take place in Samarkand on 15-16 September 2022.
