On 9 June 2021, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to China Shorsh Khaled Saeed at the Iraqi side's request. They had a detailed talk devoted to the prospects for streamlining cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
When the conversation began, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov noted that the SCO had now turned into an influential Organisation, that its voice was resounding more loudly on the international scene, and that more and more states were striving to cooperate with it.
"While relying on the Shanghai Spirit, SCO member states are working to attain goals, formalised in the Charter and other fundamental SCO documents.
"Interaction with countries interested in cooperating with the SCO and mutual dialogue, based on intersecting long-term strategic interests, facilitates mutual understanding, trust and a search for new points of contact," the SCO Secretary-General pointed out.
Shorsh Khaled Saeed confirmed that the SCO was playing a key role in expanding constructive regional dialogue and maintaining security and stability in the vast Eurasian region.
The sides agreed to expand cultural and humanitarian collaboration between the Embassy of Iraq in China and the SCO Secretariat.
